Admit it. Only a few months or years ago, you and your buddies sat around a big screen TV and planned your zombie escape strategy. Between scoopfuls of dip and sips of beer you outlined every detail whilst eying your friends surreptitiously and wondering who would make “the cut.” Jerry was clearly out since he was too slow. Tina could stay since she was a paramedic. You would need people like her in the coming Apocalypse.
Some of you may not even have stopped there, perhaps diving head first into an internet k-hole of survival gear and escape blogs. Sure zombies wouldn’t really happen (right?) but something else could get us! Just look at the state of the world. It could be a virus, an economic collapse, global warming, or California could just fall into the sea Atlantis-style. The world knows it is doomed too, just look at all the movies coming out lately! People are suddenly in a panic. But, are they really SUDDENLY in a panic?
In episode 2 of This Isn’t New, we explore these panicky feelings and, as you can guess, put some of your fears to rest - Only to replace them with new fears...But, don’t worry. None of our fears are really all that new so you aren’t alone!
We also interview author and recipient of the 2014 Philip K. Dick award for Distinguished Original Science Fiction, Meg Elison, who will be talking about her post-apocalyptic novel “The Book of the Unnamed Midwife.” Which is available in paperback and Kindle!
So strap in, heroes, wanderers, and ne'er do wells, while we at This Isn’t New discuss your favorite apocalypse films and novels, delve into the history surrounding trendy apocalypses, and even detail for you some of our own End-of-the-World survival plans (Spoiler Alert: They are woefully lacking)
