This Isn't New Episode 001 - Online Dating
*Coming soon to iTunes and Sticher
This is Cliff, one of your cantankerous podcast hosts, and since I just referred to you as my friend, I can already tell we’re off to a great start. This first episode of our podcast is about online dating, and how reaching out to strangers for intimate companionship isn’t actually that new.
Do you remember that one time (probably around 2012) when you were getting in your car to go find some new Thai place, whose name you could barely spell, and whose address you didn’t even know, and you turned to your friend and said “what did we even DO before google maps?”
This podcast is basically that conversation but for dating.
The stigma for online dating is going down, while its impact on our culture is going up. For better or for worse, this is how a lot of us are seeking companionship now. But what’s the historical process that is informing that new culture? What expectations are we subconsciously bringing to the table, plugged into us by that history? How is it shaping our expectations of romance? How much do we love Aziz Ansari? (Answer: a lot).
Referencing this high-brow banter and unrequested dating advice in future conversations will not only make you sound like a more worldly and intelligent citizen of the digital age-- it will definitely get you laid on your next Tinder date. (See. I said we were friends.)
Lovingly awaiting your hate-mail,
